How to Reset an Email Account Password

Written by Garrett Saundry

If you are unable to access a Webnames email account because you have forgotten the password, there are several ways to reset it and regain access.

Important: This article applies to Webnames email account passwords only. It does not apply to your Webnames account login password.

Option 1: Reset Your Password from the Webmail Login Page

The quickest way to recover access to an email account is through the self-service password reset tool available from the Webmail login page.

Steps

  1. Visit the Webmail login page:

  2. Click the Password Reset link.

  3. You will be redirected to:

  4. Enter the email address for the mailbox you wish to reset.

  5. Follow the instructions provided on screen.

How the Recovery Process Works

A password reset email is sent to the mailbox's recovery email address.

By default, the recovery email address is the Webnames account owner's email address. If the mailbox administrator has configured a different recovery address, the reset instructions will be sent there instead.

Once you receive the reset email, follow the instructions to create a new password and regain access to the mailbox.

Option 2: Have the Webnames Account Owner Reset the Password

If the self-service password reset process is unsuccessful, the password can be reset directly by the Webnames account owner through the Email Administration interface.

This method is useful when:

  • The recovery email address is no longer accessible.

  • The password reset email is not being received.

  • The mailbox user does not know the recovery email address.

  • Immediate administrative intervention is required.

Steps for the Webnames Account Owner

  1. Log in to the Webnames customer account.

  2. Open Email Administration.

  3. Select the email account requiring a password reset.

  4. Open the account's Settings page.

  5. Enter a new password in the Change Mail Account Password section.

  6. Save the changes.

The account owner can then provide the new password to the mailbox user.

Password Requirements

Email account passwords must:

  • Be at least 8 characters long

  • Include at least one uppercase letter

  • Include at least one lowercase letter

  • Include at least one number
