Using Cloudflare with Webnames Hosting, Wix, and Email Services

Written by Garrett Saundry

Cloudflare can be used with Webnames services, including:

  • Webnames Plesk Hosting

  • Wix websites

  • Webnames Email Hosting

  • Any combination of these services

Cloudflare provides DNS management, performance optimization, security, SSL services, and DDoS protection. However, moving a domain to Cloudflare involves more than simply changing nameservers.

Before You Begin

When using Cloudflare, there are two separate configuration steps:

1. Change Your Nameservers

Cloudflare will provide a set of nameservers for your domain.

Once you update your domain to use those nameservers, Cloudflare becomes the authoritative DNS provider for the domain.

2. Configure DNS Records Within Cloudflare

After Cloudflare becomes authoritative for DNS, you must configure DNS records that point to the services you are using.

For example:

  • Wix websites must be pointed to Wix.

  • Webnames Plesk Hosting must be pointed to the hosting server.

  • Webnames Email Hosting requires mail-related DNS records.

Changing nameservers alone is not enough. If the required DNS records are not configured in Cloudflare, your website or email service may stop working.

Using Cloudflare with Wix

If your website is hosted with Wix and Cloudflare will manage your DNS, create the following records in Cloudflare:

Required Website Records

Type

Name

Content

A

@

185.230.63.107

CNAME

www

pointing.wixdns.net

These records direct visitors to Wix's hosting platform.

Once added, verify the domain connection within your Wix account.

Important

Cloudflare does not replace Wix hosting.

Your website remains hosted on Wix. Cloudflare simply manages DNS and optionally proxies website traffic.

Using Cloudflare with Webnames Plesk Hosting

Yes, Cloudflare works with all Webnames Plesk Hosting plans.

Required Website Records

The required IP address depends on the hosting server assigned to your account.

Type

Name

Content

A

@

Your Plesk Hosting Server IP

Your hosting server IP address can be found in your Plesk Control Panel.

Webnames hosting server IP addresses typically begin with: 209.15.37.x

For the www hostname, use :

Type: CNAME

Name: www

Content: yourdomain.ca

Important

Cloudflare must be configured to point to your hosting server. If the hosting server IP address is not configured correctly, your website will not load even if the nameserver change has completed successfully.

Using Cloudflare with Webnames Email Hosting

Cloudflare works with Webnames Email Hosting, however, all required email-related DNS records must be configured in Cloudflare after DNS is delegated.

Required Email Records

Type

Host Name

Destination

Additional Information

MX

@

smtp.webnames.ca

Priority 10

SRV

_autodiscover._tcp

webnames.ca

Priority 5, Weight 25, Port 443

CNAME

autoconfig

autoconfig.webnames.ca

TXT

@

v=spf1 a:spf10.webnames.ca -all

Important

Email-related DNS records should be configured as DNS Only (grey cloud).

Do not proxy:

  • MX records

  • autodiscover records

  • autoconfig records

  • SMTP-related records

  • other email service records

Cloudflare's proxy service is designed for web traffic and should not be used for email services.

Common Configurations

Wix Website + Webnames Email

Configure the following records in Cloudflare:

A @ 185.230.63.107

CNAME www pointing.wixdns.net

MX @ smtp.webnames.ca Priority 10

SRV _autodiscover._tcp webnames.ca Priority 5 Weight 25 Port 443

CNAME autoconfig autoconfig.webnames.ca

TXT @ v=spf1 a:spf10.webnames.ca -all

Webnames Plesk Website + Webnames Email

Configure the following records in Cloudflare:

A @ <Plesk Hosting Server IP>

CNAME www yourdomain.ca

MX @ smtp.webnames.ca Priority 10

SRV _autodiscover._tcp webnames.ca Priority 5 Weight 25 Port 443

CNAME autoconfig autoconfig.webnames.ca

TXT @ v=spf1 a:spf10.webnames.ca -all

Replace <Plesk Hosting Server IP> with the IP address shown in your Plesk Hosting Control Panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

I changed my nameservers to Cloudflare. Why isn't my website working?

Changing nameservers only delegates DNS management to Cloudflare. You must also configure DNS records within Cloudflare that point to your website provider, such as Wix or your Webnames Plesk Hosting server.

I changed my nameservers to Cloudflare and email stopped working.

This usually occurs when the required email records (MX, SPF, autodiscover, or autoconfig) were not recreated in Cloudflare.

Cloudflare automatically imported DNS records. Is my setup complete?

Not necessarily. Cloudflare's automatic scan is helpful, but you should always verify that all website and email DNS records match the requirements of your hosting and email providers.

Can Cloudflare replace my hosting service?

No. Cloudflare is a DNS, security, and performance platform. Your website content continues to be hosted on Wix or your Webnames Plesk Hosting account, and your email continues to be provided through your email hosting service.

Summary

Cloudflare can be used successfully with Webnames Plesk Hosting, Wix websites, and Webnames Email Hosting.

The most important thing to remember is that there are two required steps:

  1. Change the domain's nameservers to Cloudflare.

  2. Configure the necessary DNS records within Cloudflare so that website and email traffic is directed to the correct service.

If either step is missed, your website or email service may not function correctly. For most Cloudflare-related issues, the first thing to verify is that the expected DNS records are present and correctly configured within Cloudflare.
