In order to use/assign name servers to a domain name, each name server must first be registered at the respective registry. (Doing so creates a Glue Record for a name server which basically defines the IP address of the name server so it can be found on the Internet.)
This step need only be done once per name server, and this step is typically performed by the administrator of said name server at the time it is first brought online.
To either register new name servers or update the IP address(es) of an existing name server (i.e. maintain the Glue Record for a name server at the respective Registry), please take the following steps:
NOTE: This process is ONLY for the registration management of name servers, such as ns1.yourdomainname.ca. To manage the functionality of your domain name itself, please choose another option. Refer to Domain Routing for more information. |
Navigate to Account > Manage Domains
Click on the domain in question
Under the Domain Actions heading in the lower part of the page, click on Manage under Child Hosts.
Either Add New Host or update the existing host names and IP addresses as necessary.
Click Apply your changes
NOTE: The IP address fields on this interface support both IPv4 and IPv6 formats, and support multiple IP addresses assignments wherever supported by the respective Registry. |
Changes will be immediately submitted to the respective Registry for the domain, however please allow approximately 1 hour for the changes to take effect.
