SSL certificates need to be installed after each purchase or renewal, and the installation occurs within the web hosting of your website.

OVERVIEW

Installing your SSL Certificate is the fifth of six steps to enabling SSL on your website. See our overview of all six steps, here.

  1. CSR Key Generation

  2. Configuration

  3. Validation

  4. Issuance

  5. Installation

  6. Site Seal Installation

Your SSL certificate will be installed in the same place as where your CSR was generated in step one. of the process.

FOR WEBSITES USING WEBNAMES HOSTING

STEP 1 of 2: UPLOAD YOUR SSL CERITIFCATE

Your SSL Certificate needs to be installed into your Hosting Control Panel in the same area as where your CSR was generated in step one. of the process.

  1. Click on your domain name

  2. Click on the Hosting tab

  3. Under the Actions section, click Login under Hosting Control Panel

  4. Once inside the Hosting Control Panel, locate the related domain name on the Website & Domains tab, and click SSL/TLS Certificates (click the Show More option if necessary)

  1. Click on the name of your certificate

  2. Upload your certificate using either the Upload the certificate files option to files or Upload the certificate as text option to paste your certificate information. Be sure to include both the Certificate as well as CA Certificate as supplied to you. Your website cannot be secured without both pieces of data.

  • NOTE: When pasting your SSL certificate and CA Certificate information from your email and into the Hosting Control Panel, include both the:

-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----

and

-----END CERTIFICATE-----

text.

Click the applicable Upload Certificate button to submit your data

STEP 2 of 2: ASSOCIATE YOUR SSL CERTIFICATE WITH YOUR WEBSITE CONTENT

  1. To associate your SSL certificate to the content of your website, return to the Websites & Domains tab, and click Web Hosting Settings.

  2. From the SSL certificate menu, select your new SSL certificate from the list and click OK.

  3. Please wait for up to 10 minutes for your changes to take effect.

Installation of your SSL Certificate is complete, and your website is now secured via SSL!

FOR CUSTOMERS NOT USING WEBNAMES WEB HOSTING

Your SSL Certificate needs to be installed onto the physical server which hosts your website. If you have direct access to this server, then you can install the certificate yourself via instructions found at the applicable link below.

If you utilize another hosting provider for your website, you will need to contact them for assistance with installing your SSL Certificate since the process in this case will vary from one provider to another.
